After being concentrated and digested, the sludge still has about 95%~97% moisture content, and the volume is still very large. Sludge dewatering can further remove the interstitial water and capillary water in the sludge and reduce its volume. After dewatering treatment, the moisture content of sludge can be reduced to 70%~80%, and its volume is 1/10~1/4 of original volume, which is conducive to subsequent transportation and treatment. The methods of sludge mechanical dehydration include filtering dehydration, centrifugal dehydration and squeezing dehydration, filtration dehydration with vacuum filtration and pressure filtration; centrifugal dehydration is dehydrated with centrifuges, and squeezing dehydration is dehydrated with a spiral press or a rolling press. The commonly used methods are pressure filtration and centrifugal dehydration. The filtration and dewatering of sludge is the driving force of the pressure difference between the two sides of the filter medium, so that the water of the sludge is forced through the filter medium to form the filtrate, and the solid particles are intercepted on the medium to form the filter cake, thus the purpose of sludge dewatering is achieved. Plate and frame filter press is the first machine used for chemical dehydration. Although the plate frame pressure filter is usually operated intermittently, the investment of infrastructure equipment is large and the filtering ability is low, but because of its advantages of large filter driving force, high solid rate of filter cake, clear filtrate, high solid recovery rate and high consumption of medicine, it is still widely used in some small sewage plants.
